Journal Pages and WIP

This week my journal pages are abstracts.  I have been in the garden a bit this week.  Getting it ready for autumn plantings of veggies and flowers.  While doing so I reflected a lot on the marks we make on the landscape, and how quickly they seem to disappear.

These colours are not the colours of the landscape here at the moment as everything is brown and brown!  I had paint left over from my WIP, and with the ‘waste not want not’ principle these pages emerged.

Work In Progress

This is a portrait of a friend in acrylics.  I have known her since we were students and all that time she has suffered severe depression.  She has been on my heart as she is withdrawing more and more as each year passes. Many people have given up on her, saying she is a lost cause.  I don’t think she is, as she paints the most beautiful works of natural fantasy – yes the plants are distorted, but the colours are light and crystal clear- beautiful blues turquoises greens purples and so on.  They are full of light.  Yes, she wears black all the time and pushes people away, including me.  But her work shows her soul which is full of light.

Anyway, those thoughts were in my head when I started painting.  But something strange happened.  As I was painting the next stage (below) my thoughts started to change.  Originally, I was going to have the girl emerging from a dark wood.  But my brush started to want to paint colour and things like flowers and birds are starting to implant themselves in my mind!  So you will have to see where I go next week.  It will be a surprise to me too!

Happy Paint Party Friday everyone

Autumn Colours

For Orange You Glad Its Friday, I am using a photo of my plum tree that is starting to change into its autumn colours and a journal page I did several weeks ago.

I wanted to combine the two and see what I’d get.  Of course I had to fiddle a lot, change colours etc. That’s no hardship I love playing around in Photoshop.

Version 3

Funnily enough I like the last one best, even though it is not autumn anymore.  Let’s say that she is looking forward to spring!
