I have been procrastinating whether to take part in
the Frida Kahlo challenge at Art Journal Journeys hosted by Susi.
I have to admit (and I can hear all the boos from
every corner of the world!) that I was not really into her art. I went
to her exhibition in Wellington when I was an art student and we had to write
an essay about her. Maybe that dampened
my thoughts on her work. I found her
life story fascinating, but…….
So a couple of days ago I googled her, and I am afraid
I feel the same, but I do so admire her as a person. She epitomizes her era and the difficulties
of a woman trying to follow her star
.
I was going to do a whimsical picture of her, but in
the end felt she deserved a decent picture showing her immense strength throughout her tragic life.
I only used a part of the quote in the picture as it
is rather long, but of all her quotes this is the one that resonates with me!
“I used to think I was the strangest person in the world, but
then I thought, there are so many people in the world, there must be someone
just like me who feels flawed and bizarre in the same ways I do. I would
imagine her, and imagine that she must be out there thinking of me too. Well, I
hope that if you are out there and read this, know that, yes, it’s true I’m
here, and I’m just as strange as you.”
