At a Loss

A different post from usual, I haven’t been posting and looking at your work because life gets in the way sometimes and you don’t know how to deal with the problems.  Sometimes it can be quite paralyzing.   I can’t talk about what is going on, but I can tell you how I deal with such situations.
The situation has made me angry, not at a person, just how life unravels itself for some people.  Anger can eat away if you don’t deal with it.  One of the ways I deal with it is to paint about things that are not close to me.  Over the last two weeks I have focused on the situation in the 3rd World and produced for me political works.

This is an oil mixed media piece on hardboard 30in x 30in.  The girl is a coloured pencil drawing I got out of a magazine.  The pages are from a book on the colonization of Melanesia.  Basically, it is about our world is putting pressure on Third World Countries with corrupt practices.

This is a wood cut A4 size and it is about the situation in many African countries, it makes you feel so helpless at times.
So that’s what I have been up to over the last two weeks, I am a lot calmer now and back to my usual quirky self!  Channeling your emotions into art can be so healing.

Here’s a watercolour I did today I did from a photo I took last autumn, See I am calm now!

Have a happy Paint Party Friday everyone.

  2. Yes, I can relate. The new leaves me drained and feeling powerless. I hope to channel energy where I know I can make a difference and hope if everyone does that much the whole world will benefit eventually! I hope so! Good art therapy, great results! HPPF! Keep creating!

  3. I just want anyone who has heard of the earthquakes we are suffering, that I am okay, shaken, stirred and a bit scared but I am okay. I dont know if I will get around to many, will see what the night unravels.

  4. Oh yes, art can be very healing and help you deal with strong emotions. It's good that you were able to channel it that way, and that you're back to your usual self .... I have resorted to not watching the news anymore, because of that feeling of helplessness and anger. I know dreadful things are happening in the world today, but as an individual you're powerless to do something about it. Not a nice feeling .... I love your art by the way, lots of emotions in there ...

  5. Sharon, it's 3:30 in the morning here in Texas and I'm having one of those 'too much on my mind' to sleep nights. So I'm reading blogs. Your 3 blogs cover much of what I enjoy, art, gardens, and cats... so I'm spending some time here. And I think all 3 of these things are therapy for what ails one...

  6. Oh stay safe dear lady!! Your work is so powerful...those three letters say it all.... You have so much love and passion in your heart, so glad you are able to express it artfully!! That wood cut is amazing. There was a time I searched high an low for that kind of art work to no avail... Long before I picked up a paint brush myself! Stunning work...and then the colors...they sooth what ails... More people like you and the worlds problems could be solved a lot faster!!

    Big hugs Giggles

  18. Art is a channel for emotion and feeling - good and bad. I like how you recognized that you needed to do something different. I really like that first piece. And the wood block is terrific. I still see some turbulence in the water color - it's just beautiful though.

  20. Dear Sharon, I think like most women who have written comments. I think it is wonderful to have art as an outlet to freely express feelings and themselves to survive. Especially when it comes to things to which you have little control himself. At best, art and help from creative work in a concrete aid to go. Much love to you Erika
