Paint Party Friday

This is Samantha, she is in a whirl!  She has been listening to grown ups talking when they thought she couldn't hear.  She is confused and  unhappy.  They are saying things she doesn't understand.  Why are they angry ?

There is shouting, she wishes they would stop, it makes her miserable she wants to go and hide.

She goes up to her Mum and says “Please Mummy, make it stop……..”
Her Mum says, “It is nothing dear, we are just talking, go and play with your brothers and cousins  outside.”

Samantha doesn't want to.  Her brothers and cousins are fighting also.  So she goes into her bedroom and hides under the bed with her hands over her ears blocking the world out.

At a family gathering I witnessed this sad episode.  I know that emotions were raw because it was a funeral.  I wanted to be like Sam and go and hide under the bed!  It is so sad that history will go on repeating itself generation after generation.  Children see more than we realise sometimes, they have big ears and copy what the grown ups do, or like Sam and me, we withdraw.

Being conscious of our behaviour and giving them good guidelines will create well-adjusted happy little people like the cutie below.

(The first of the four Samantha’s is the actual painting, the other three I played with the hues on my computer.  Proves that colour tells the story!)

Have a happy creative week and thanks for visiting.

  8. Poor Samantha, what a good story, I know how she feels. Your painting of her is superb, I like the original colours best but the final one is pretty good too. It's true that children hear what is going on, they are people after all.
Good to see you back, Sharon.

  12. Although I enjoyed seeing your computer adaptations, I loved the way you depicted Samantha in the original art. The colors on the last one are so wonderful. Great post this week, Sharon. And yes, children certainly pick up on more than realized.

  13. Sharon - your artwork is fabulous - I love all the mingling of colors to tell the emotion. Wow. Your stories ring so true, too. It's a shame that the world is not filled with love for one another vs. blame, guilt, and fighting. We severed relations with most of our family for these reasons. Life is so peaceful now and our grown children love what we've done. Visiting from PPF #43 - hope you stop by and visit! Have a wonderful weekend.

  15. What you have shared here is so true. Most of the time we forget how much children are able to grasp. Lovely paintings. I love the happy Samantha

  16. I know what you mean Sharon, even if children can't understand exactly what adults are saying they still know roughly what it is about. The Samantha series is a lovely interpretation of innocence and how trust can be shattered if we are not careful how we behave. Happy PPF

  20. Sharon these paintings are great, the colours flow and they are so unique, they do tell a story, Samantha is troubled and that last happy girl looks so happy, if only all children could be like that!
