Best Laid plans.....

Wow it is Sunday again!

I am beginning to realise that lists and plans are not compatible with me.  I like making them, but somehow I do the opposite! But hey, I am retired now (since last December) and I don’t have to follow a schedule.

I was going to work on my Around the Bases but a friend asked me to do a Baby Blanket for her soon to be granddaughter.  I thought it was a good opportunity to try doing the C2C.  I love it!  I think more C2C’s will be in my future.

I haven't yet worked out a border, but I think something simple?

I was going to finish the doilies from last week, but another friend was telling me about the antics of her cat, Julie had been in the habit of leaving a jug of water on the bench as water straight from the tap was too icy to drink.  She went into the kitchen one morning to find her Kitty drinking from it, lol.  Needless to say she now covers it.  She has been looking for one of those old fashioned milk jug covers but hasn’t been able to find one for love of money.  Then, we looked at  each other, and thought doilies.  So, I have been searching out covers.  I found one on Crochet Memories, and it is lovely and quick to make up.

However it is too small for the job in hand, so I have spent a lot of time this week designing my version of a jug cover.  Most doilies tend to have really open centres which is not a good thing as we don’t need flies etc crawling in!!

I am pleased with it, but when I do another one there will be some modifications.   But I know Julie will be over the moon with this one.

I will write up and it do a chart for this jug cover and post it for anyone who would like to try it.

Well, that has been my week and I will leave you with a photo of one of my favourite winter flowers from my garden, Winter Sweet. (Chimonanthus ). When the garden is bare this shrub perfumes the air as you walk by it.

Have a wonderful week, and hopefully I will get some of the ATB done, lol.

  1. Some people work really well from lists, others don't. I am a list person because I feel like it makes me at least partly responsible for what happens. Do I always follow my lists? Noooooope. You should see the state of my bullet journal. Arrows pointing here and there, moving things around because I can't get certain things done. I'm the same with knitting. I make lists (with far more than I'll ever accomplish in a year), pick and choose, and randomly throw in extra things...like test knits or things that screamed at me to be knit. It's why I'm making a second Gex sweater right now. I did the first one as a test knit, which wasn't part of my YOP lists...and now the second one, while still not specifically on my list, is being knit. I did have loose plans to knit something for my impending niece...it just turned out that this was a good match and I knew what I was getting myself into.

So, if lists don't work, don't use them. Take the Selfish Crafter approach: do what you want, when you want, and for whomever you want. Or do what I did and make lists but give yourself wiggle room. Lots of wiggle room. Maybe use it as more of a guideline than anything.

  2. I'm afraid to start a C2C project because everyone I know who started one is now addicted to them, and I can do without anymore fiber related addictions. Yours is so lovely though.... hmmm, and inspiring.
Your jug cover is lovely. I would be very interested in the pattern for it when you get it written up, and I love that it has an 'almost' solid centre. Well done, your friend will be very pleased I'm sure, but her cat won't be so pleased.

  7. I love the colors on the blanket. Beautiful. C2c is great! Works up so fast, nice texture and so fun playing around with stripes.
Beautiful covers. That is great you are able to figure out how to make it how you want it. That's something I wish I could do. Great job!!!!

  8. I love the colors you're using in the C2C baby blanket. And your cup and jug covers are beautiful. BTW, I enjoy making lists, but following them? Not so much. ;^) That's one of the things I love about the YOP group - there is freedom to create and plan in whatever way inspires each of us.

  11. I love the colours of your C2C and they are so quick and easy they are a joy to crochet. Lists are only ever a guideline here in the group and if you feel like wandering off we will only encourage you. Love the doilies and your version works so much better than the first.

  13. The C2C is wonderful. They are really a fun project to do and so nice to do while watching the TV. The idea for a jug cover is wonderful. I would never have thought of such a thing. I just lay a small plate across mine. Yours is much prettier.
