Afghans and Shells

I have had a productive week!  Mainly because the weather has been terrible, we are definitely are now in the thick of winter so lots of sitting in front of the fire doing yarny stuff and painting.

Afghans

I have decided to get stuck into my Around the Bases Afghan that I have not touched since October.  To be fair to myself I was suffering terribly with Carpal Tunnel and eventually had to have operations on both wrists in December.  (Anyone who is putting off the idea of an operation for it, don’t, they have changed my life.)

For the centre which you chose yourself I used Bursting with Pride by Amber Schaaf, up to round 11, then I adapted elements from Sophies Universe by Dedri Uys.

I had got up to Part 3 I had to stop.  This week I have reached part 8. There are 8 more to go.  I had hope to get a better picture of it this afternoon but the kitties decided it was lovely to nap on I being the softy  I am I let them be.  You can see the rounds I added in the bottom corner!

Shells

The other thing that has been grabbing my attention is freeform = shells  In the IFFF group on Ravelry there is a kcal Down by the Seashore

This week hosted by Nell, she designed a limpet and other goodies.  These are my efforts.

I love shells and have a collection in my bathroom so they had to adorn them.

Doing the shells awaken my desire to paint which has been dormant for a while, so I got the watercolours out and ended up with three pieces of art. Thanks Nell.

On this last one I am toying with the idea of using  pastels to make shell like marks, but I will brew on it for a bit.

Well its Sunday night  and so another week begins and I will leave you with this funny my sister emailed me this week.

    1. Thank you Diana. Sometimes I think I spend more time on deciding what colour to use than actually crocheting.

  3. Your crocheted shells are adorable, Sharon. The IFFF group sounds like interesting place to be challenged. I was going to write, "I should check it out", but I checking the group out on Ravelry, I see I'm already a member. lol You've made me curious so I'm going to go lurk there and see what else you all are up to.

  8. What an amazing looking afghan. I love the middle section you chose and the colours are lovely. So glad to hear that your carpal tunnel op went well and that you're now able to enjoy crocheting again. Nice to find another 'down-under' person here on YoP. I'm just over the pond in Aus. xox

  10. You are so talented! Not only with a crochet hook but your watercolors are beautiful! So glad your surgery was a success as it is evident that you need those hands and wrists! Your afghan/blanket is absolutely gorgeous! I could see the progress you made despite the "kitties" hogging the blanket! LOL! I have 2 dogs and 2 cats....the last cat ho just turned a year is still in training so I have to watch my yarny things very carefully...but she's getting better...who said you can't train cats? LOL! I hope you continue to post in this group as I can't wait to see more! P.S. I wish it was Winter here....my favorite time of year along with Fall. It is summer here in the South U.S. and very warm/hot. I am from the North U.S. originally and need to go back as it is too hot for me here....I just stay in all summer practically. Have a great week!

  11. Your afghan looks fantastic! Love the colour and how interesting are those free form shells. Free Form crochet is not something I've tried before. I do love your watercolour also, love the colours! It would make an excellent yarn colour! :)

  15. Your crochet is terrific with great colour combinations and complex stitches and of course you had to let the kitties have a little lie on it, what else could it possibly be for?
Love to see your paintings with light again, the one with squares is like a painted afghan.

  16. Glad to hear that surgery was a success! Looks like you've been super productive! The afghan looks great, and isn't it just like cats to claim the yarn-y projects for their own! They're so sweet though that you can't possibly disturb them!

Your shell painting is wonderful! Love all the bright and fresh colours!

  17. Absolutely adore your paintings and such a lovely beginning to 'Around the Bases'. Of course you can't disturb the resident "crochet comfort assessors", they are only doing their job after all, lol.

  18. The blanket is lovely. Your kitties know a good napping spot when they find it. The shells are awesome. It's fun to see how one project inspires another.
