A Journal Week

This week has been busy for me and I haven’t had much time for painting my large portrait of my friend.  Hopefully, I will get time this holiday weekend and I will be able to finish it next week for PPF.  However, I have been able to do some journal pieces this week.

I used gouache for this page.  I love it as it has more body than pure watercolour.  I read that quote in a book of quotes about ‘tranquility’ I am reading and thought it wonderful and suited my rather quizzical girl!

One of the reasons I have been busy is that I did a guest post for Julie Balzer’s  Art Journal Every Day for this weekend.  Click here to view.  She wanted me to write about my experience doing the 29 FACES CHALLENGE.

Earlier in the week I managed to get out and do these two water colours in my watercolour journal.  I love trees and there was a time when they appeared in nearly every painting I did.  I have realized that I have not painted any for a long time.  I have had a painting in my head for a long time and I think it is time to let it out.  So,I think it will be the next painting I do after I finish my friend’s portrait.

The last bit of art for today is a journal page I have been working on for a while.  I think I need to do something about the text.  The text doesn’t show up very well when scanned.  Perhaps if I put a dark lined around the edges?  The text should read “Home is where my heart is.”  So that is my week.

Have a great Easter Holiday every one!

  1. Wow, you've been busy! I really love that first journal page. On the last page, I'd definitely say outline and maybe even add some shading around those letters to create some contrast and help them stand out a little more. It's an absolutely gorgeous page. I love your colors!!

  3. There's not much time for painting trees when you take the 29 faces challenge!! :) I love the paintings you have done, especially the colours in the first of your tree paintings. Great quote on your quizzical girl :)

  4. Great journal pages! I love the bright colors in your lady and I was able to read the text on the last one just fine but maybe outlining them will help them jump off the page a bit more.

  5. Hi Sharon!
:-) I love your lazy woman! (she could be me ;-))
I cannot open the link to Julie Balzer's blog, but I know how to find her!
Your tree water colours are light and beautiful and the journal page with the quote is really the favorite Sharon style art, though the letters are disturbing me in the view on your beautiful colors and lines, meaning that I love what is behind the letters!!! But the quote is beautiful in itself!

    Happy PPF and happy Easter,

    Ilona

  13. I have come over to your blog via Julie's blog. I do love your art and will certainly return.
By the way, your "click here" for Julie's blog does not click. Is it just stupid me, or is the link really missing?

  29. Hey, it was really interesting to read your guest-post! I didn't know you only started last year! Great work you did! How do you make those really fine lines on your homemade stamps? I love them!

    1. I use blocks of wood and glue thick cotton randomly or in grids or whatever pattern I want. It has to be pva as it makes the cotton hard, I use wool or strands of it for thicker lines. When I add them to my work I use a roller and ink the block so that the raised surface only has the paint. Sometimes I use a lead pencil on the edges to give a 3D look.
