In My Garden

I was going to take a day off art activities today, ha! The muse rules.

I was having breakfast this morning out in the garden, basking in the balmy autumn sun, when I espied a blackbird.  It wasn’t just any blackbird.  It was the lame blackbird with a withered leg.  I hadn’t seen him all summer and assumed he had gone to bird heaven.  Ever since I had moved into this house 4 years ago he has with his mate visited pecking away at insects and worms that my garden provides.

I was so happy to see him, I heard some squawking and looked up and sure enough there was his mate on the washing line.  She was squawking a warning!  One of my cats, Bro was meandering along the path; he stopped and went into hunt mode.  Then something miraculous happened!  He suddenly sat up, made a peculiar chirpy noise and the one legged blackbird hopped closer to him and its mate started to sing!

I was speechless; Bro just sat there and watched the little bird hop about collecting bits of worms from the grass.  At one stage they were only about a metre apart and Bro made no effort to hunt it.

So I had to go inside and do a sketch, well, a couple of hours later the sketch turned into this journal page.
Yes, the muse rules!

  1. Sharon you did again! And now I must be earnest and ask you to work on some other media, that you can post and send off to customers! This piece is simply great! Yes I'm earnest! :-)

    1. Thank Ilona, you are not silly! Actually I have been thinking only today to do a series of smallish (A4) paintings on canvas boards, They wouldn't be too expensive to post I imagine. I'll experiment and post on it in the near future. I too love this piece and could quite happily do it again on canvas board or perhaps heavy card.
