WIP and Trees

I have had a very productive week.  Lots of work and happy with it!
Been working on my Portrait and it is coming on I bits and drabs.  I am struggling with the size as it is large, and my shoulders get very tired from lifting my arm up (result of accident).  When I finish, I think it will my last picture that size.  I did a picture of some trees, the size of the canvas was 40cm x 50cm and I was able to work at consistently as I worked with it flat on the table and I didn’t have to lift my arm!

Still lots of work but parts are practically finished see closeup below.

The other picture was some winter trees; I mentioned last week that I love trees and had a painting in my head, well here it is finished and all! For a change I use the acrylic thickly instead of my thin washes in layers.

It is autumn here and the leaves are starting to fall.  However in NZ our native trees are evergreen so there is always some green.  When I was living in Britain I used to love the skyline and the tracery and colours of the winter landscape.  So this is a memory picture of some trees I used to see in winter on a drive to the track where I used to train twice a week at dusk. (Once I was one of those crazy ultra-runners!)

I have also done a lot of journaling but will post on that tomorrow.

So have a happy Paint Party Friday everyone.

(I always feel strange saying that as Friday is almost over for us here, just have to remember that most of you are just starting Friday!)

  4. Lovely work, Sharon! The portrait is wonderful :-)
I have never been an excessive sportswoman, though I have loved to be active always.

It's a pity with your arm hurting, hope it is not too bad! Good that you are still able to make art
    in other ways!

I'm not posting art today, just visiting PPF'ers

  5. Wow great body of work Sharon.... sorry your arm hurts from the large canvas! They say Canada is the most like New Zealand...my friends who've visited agree... even though we are on opposing seasons we also always have evergreens... the blossoms are just starting to bloom now!! Such beauty, as is the fall!!

Great trees,I look forward to the other canvas being finished!!!

I only liked running what I was a kid, the rest of the time walking suits me fine :oD lol
So you are starting your Fall, we are starting our Spring. We in the west have a bunch of evergreens too, and a few colorful trees but nothing as rioting color like in the East of the US.
    Happy PPF!

  9. Your big canvas painting is beautiful. Your image has such a sweet expression. Your technique reminds me of some famous artist, whose name I can't think of at the moment! The trees in winter are lovely. There is something majestic about leafless trees.

  12. Beautiful paintings. I love your winter trees. I did a large painting for my daughter a few weeks ago and also had a hard time due to an old shoulder injury. I had to work in stages and I'm not sure I would attempt something quite so large again.

  20. two beautiful pieces. I am especially impressed with the tree painting as it is done from your memory rather than a reference photo - that's fantastic. I'm not sure I could conjure up enough detail in a memory to create a painting!!

  23. The little black and white cat looks such a character, especially love the tree painting. You are very lucky not to be in the uk over this past winter, It has lasted almost six months! I know winter trees are beautiful but I'm yearning some nice spring leaves :) As Nic said very impressive to have painted so well from memory.
